Kid LAROI's "The Girls" Chocolate Smoothie (Erewhon Copycat)

Kid LAROI became the first male musician to get an Erewhon smoothie collab and he went straight for chocolate, which honestly tracks for a 20-year-old. The Girls is a rich, dark chocolate blend with a hot pink pitaya coconut cream layer at the bottom and cacao nibs scattered on top. It's described as "your favorite childhood drink" but made with organic ingredients and colostrum, which is a sentence that could only exist in 2024 Los Angeles. The chocolate flavor is more cacao-forward than sweet chocolate, meaning it tastes like dark chocolate and banana rather than a Wendy's Frosty. If you want milkshake sweetness, add more dates or maple syrup. The pitaya cream layer at the bottom is what makes it photogenic. Hot pink and chocolate brown in the same cup is a color combination that works better than it has any right to. This is the exact recipe with a sub for the $50 jar of colostrum. Same chocolate, same pink cream layer, same visual. The first male musician Erewhon smoothie, made in your kitchen, for the cost of a banana and some cacao powder.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chocolate almond milk (MALK or any brand)
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/2 ripe avocado
  • 1 tablespoon cacao powder
  • 1 tablespoon almond butter
  • 2 pitted Medjool dates
  • 1 scoop whey or plant-based protein powder
  • 1 tablespoon chocolate ganache or chocolate spread (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon cacao nibs
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • FOR THE CUP:
  • 2 tablespoons coconut cream (thick, chilled)
  • 1/2 teaspoon pitaya (dragon fruit) powder

Instructions

  1. 1

    Make the pitaya cream base

Blend the coconut cream and pitaya powder together in a small bowl or pulse them in the blender for 5 seconds. Spoon the hot pink cream into the bottom of your cup and spread some on the inside walls. This is the pink layer that contrasts with the dark chocolate smoothie.

  2. 2

    Blend the chocolate smoothie

Add the chocolate almond milk, frozen banana, avocado, cacao powder, almond butter, dates, protein powder, chocolate ganache, and sea salt to your blender. Blend on high for 45 seconds until smooth and thick. Deep chocolate brown, almost black. The avocado makes it creamy without any avocado taste.

  3. 3

Pour over the pink and top

Pour the chocolate smoothie slowly into the cup over the pitaya cream. The dark brown against the hot pink creates a striking two-tone through the clear cup. Top with cacao nibs and an extra pinch of sea salt. The salt on top makes a bigger difference than you'd expect. Sweet, salty, chocolate. That's the move.

  4. 4

    Serve

Drink it knowing that this is what a $21 chocolate smoothie tastes like. The cacao nibs give little crunchy bursts of bitter chocolate through the creamy blend. The dates keep it naturally sweet without refined sugar. It's a grown-up chocolate milkshake with a pink bottom and a wellness resume.

Baker's Notes

  • The original recipe has ARMRA colostrum, which is bovine colostrum that costs about $50 a jar. Vanilla protein powder does the same job flavor-wise for a fraction of the price. Unless you're already in the colostrum community, skip it.
  • Chocolate almond milk is doing a lot of the chocolate flavor work here. MALK makes an organic one that's excellent. Any brand works but avoid the super sweet ones or the smoothie gets cloying.
  • The avocado is non-negotiable. It's what makes this taste like a milkshake instead of chocolate water. You won't taste it at all.
  • If you want it sweeter, add another date or a tablespoon of maple syrup. The Erewhon version isn't super sweet since it's going for dark chocolate vibes, not Hershey's vibes.

FAQ

Does this taste like a chocolate milkshake?
More like a dark chocolate smoothie. It's cacao-forward, not sugar-forward. If you're expecting Dairy Queen, recalibrate. If you appreciate dark chocolate and banana together, you'll love this.
What's pitaya powder?
Dried and powdered pink dragon fruit. It's used purely for the hot pink color in the coconut cream base. Tastewise it's very mild. You're buying it for aesthetics and that's fine. Available at most health food stores or Amazon.
Why was this the first male musician collab?
Because apparently no man had ever looked at Erewhon's celebrity smoothie program and said "yeah I want in on that" until Kid LAROI did it to promote his single. The bar was on the floor and he stepped over it. Respect.
